Off-Spring
A line filled with God, great men at the kneel,
From Hāshim to `Abd Manāf, ˊAdnān to ˊIsmā`īl
Desert Rose
The status quo by which senseless men maintain
Quraysh eager to arrest such monstrous bane
Restoring the Ka `bah
In semi-ruin stood the House of God
The sanctuary where many are awed
Solitude—Contemplation—Revelation
Again, enveloped and no sooner did Gabriel part
When the words inscribed on Muḥammad’s heart
Consolation
Muḥammad lay with heart a tremble
His heart sublime, in time, became a temple
Warn and Declare
Muḥammad bathed in heavenly wisdom
Arabic verse with cadence and rhythm
Torture and Conviction
A bed was made from sun-drenched earth
Stripped and tied, scorched in nature’s hearth
The Inquisition
The dilemma coiled, tightened around their minds
And settled into every crevice deposited by the winds
`Umar bin ˊal-Khaṭṭāb
A mentioning made, that flounder he will
That he would be slew before making his kill
A Change of Heart
A change presided; his aspect overturned
From villain to a brother concerned
The Year of Sorrow
Consented, ratified; Quraysh spawned the ban
The interdict imposed on the whole Hashemite clan
The Hijrah
A thousand false promises, still they obey
Surely Satan is man’s enemy, he leads astray
A City Reborn
In a roundabout way only known by a true desert son
Guided and on day twelve, entry into Qubāˊ was won
Strength in Congregation
The first pillar of ˊIslām but one
Timely prayer; thine must be done
Raiders of Makkan Traders
The illegal goods of enriched Makkan clans
Unjust markets moving across desert sands
The Eve of Battle
The Prophet sought counsel to advance or withdraw
Not sure of ˊAllāh’s will; maybe caravan, maybe war
The Battle of Badr
Divinely ordained was the Day of Criterion
Between falsehood and truth; a righteous division
The Community
Breathing her last as her life sped away
To where time ceases and bodies decay
The Matrices
Syllables clung to prideful men moored to foolish lore
Men with hearts harder than stone, rotten to the core
Battle Stations
Three capable men representing their clans
Bearing the standards with reverent hands
Minarets Aflame
If Muḥammad dies will you turn on your heels?
The successful falls prostrate to ˊAllāh and kneels
A Persian Depression
Such noble cunning made his audience grin
A fissure unknown until their foes were in
Treachery and Faith
The interlude, brief, lasted from dawn to noon
None compassed arms to be taken up so soon
The Heirloom
Heralds from within, and with the Prophet allied
Austral winds bore news, and Madīnah replied
Architects of Scandal
In the arms of Madīnah `Āˊishah fell ill
The slanderous whisper a discordant spill
Sacking of Khaybar
Word from the Prophet to Abyssinia bade
Muslims, hither, from Abyssinia’s shade
The Choice and the Minor Pilgrimage
The armistice breached, illegal combat was resumed
Quraysh; villainous, murderous, plotted their doom
A Nameless Enemy
ˊIslām in maturity, in days of fecund
Wielding power, the Bedouin summoned
Advancing Towards a New Power
A great many Muslims sprouted, from faith fertile
Diverse men and women, but to his example; servile
